The Champions League returns for its 72nd season in 2026/27, with holders Paris Saint-Germain chasing an unprecedented three-peat after back-to-back triumphs — including a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the 2026 final at Budapest's Puskás Aréna. Only Ajax, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have ever won the competition three seasons running.
England boasts the competition's largest representation this season, with six Premier League clubs in the league phase — more than any other nation, ahead of Spain's five and Germany, Italy and France with four apiece. The league phase draw takes place in Nyon on Thursday 27 August, with Matchday 1 following on 8–10 September 2026. The competition builds toward its showpiece final at Atlético Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday 5 June 2027 — the venue's second Champions League final after hosting Liverpool's 2019 triumph over Tottenham.
