TRÁNSITO

Jesús Torres

A chamber opera
Libretto by the composer based upon a text by Max Aub

The road to nowhere from exile
Aub describes in 1947, in the mouth of his character, Emilio, the journey through the immense solitude of the world he is led to be exiled in after the Spanish Civil War. A new life overseas with Tránsito, his lover in exile; and another who lives in her letters: Cruz, his wife in Spain. Body and heart separated on a journey marked on the map of time by a cross; and marked by a metaphorical transit towards a destination that has been reached with a suitcase filled with pain and absences.

The Teatre Martín i Soler is the appropriate space to develop the new staging of the chamber music work by Jesús Torres. The stage designer is the Valencian director, playwright and set designer Carles Alfaro, a regular in Spanish theatres with more than fifty productions, and several times a winner of the Max Award. The singers in the leading roles are the Basque mezzo-soprano Carmen Artaza and the former students of the Centre de Perfeccionament, Isaac Galán and Pablo García-López, as well as María Miró and Toni Marsol. They will be accompanied by musicians from the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana under the baton of Jordi Francés, an expert in 20th Century and contemporary opera, as he already demonstrated with his alert version of Trouble in Tahiti in this same theatre.
