Brighton return to European football in 2026/27, entering the UEFA Conference League for the first time since 2023/24, after Fabian Hürzeler steered the club to an 8th-placed finish in a season that had its fair share of twists — including a rocky spell in February that briefly had some fans calling for his head, before a strong late-season run turned the mood around entirely.

Hürzeler was rewarded for that turnaround with a contract extension through to 2029, and heads into the new campaign with a settled, well-drilled squad built around his possession-based, high-pressing style. With nine Premier League clubs starting the season under new permanent managers, Brighton's continuity and stability could prove a genuine advantage — few sides in the division know their identity as clearly as Hürzeler's Seagulls.

Brighton begin their European campaign with a two-legged Conference League play-off in late August, sandwiched around the Premier League opener at home to Aston Villa on Sunday 23 August.
