Schalke 04 return to the Bundesliga for 2026/27, sealing an immediate promotion by finishing top of 2. Bundesliga under head coach Miron Muslić, who joined from Plymouth Argyle in summer 2025 and won 20 of his first 32 league matches in charge. Muslić signed a contract extension through to 2028 immediately after guiding the club back to the top flight for the first time since their 2022/23 relegation.
Home matches are played at the Veltins-Arena, a 62,000-plus capacity stadium in Gelsenkirchen and one of the best-supported grounds in German football even during their time in the second division — Schalke's average home attendance regularly outstrips several established Bundesliga clubs. The famous Schalke Ultras and the club's deep working-class roots make it one of the most passionate matchday atmospheres in the country.
Newly promoted alongside Hamburger SV's fellow returnees and SC Paderborn, Schalke will face Bundesliga giants including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen for the first time in several years.
