⚽ What the Champions League Is

The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s premier club football tournament featuring top‑finishing teams from leagues across the continent. In its 2025‑26 season, a revamped format with 36 teams is being used, with clubs competing through both a league phase and successive knockout rounds toward the final. The competition culminates in a one‑off final where the champion earns European glory and qualification perks for other international club competitions.

Format & Stages

  • League Phase: All 36 teams played eight matchdays to determine the rankings for the knockout stages.

  • Round of 16: Currently underway, this two‑leg knockout sees top clubs from the league phase face off in home/away ties. Winners progress to the quarter‑finals.

  • Quarter‑finals & Semi‑finals: Scheduled later in March/April following completion of Round of 16 results.

  • Final: The 2026 UEFA Champions League final will be held on 30 May 2026 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary.
