Barcelona's legendary opera house opens its 2026/27 season under the theme "(Des)sacralise," and it's also the first season under new Music Director Jonathan Nott. The season kicks off with Verdi's Aida, directed by Shirin Neshat and shared across four sopranos including Anna Netrebko (Sept 25–Oct 15, 2026), followed by Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchiwith Lisette Oropesa. Verdi's Requiem brings Lise Davidsen to the stage on November 3–4, while Nott himself leads a new Ring cycle opener with Wagner's Das Rheingold, plus Janáček's Jenůfa and Britten's War Requiem. The program runs nine staged operas, four in concert, four dance productions, and a dozen concerts and recitals across the year — with names like Asmik Grigorian, Piotr Beczała, and Ermonela Jaho joining the roster. Demand for Liceu's biggest nights is intense — book early to guarantee your seat.
