The Hungarian State Opera marks its 143rd season under the theme "Season of Eastern Tales," ranging from ancient biblical settings to 20th-century and futuristic visions of the East across twelve premieres, including new productions of Salome, Madama Butterfly, and Il trovatore, the world premiere of Máté Bella's Passio, and a centenary production of Háry János. The season brings a formidable roster of international stars to the Budapest Opera House, with Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo, Diana Damrau and René Pape joining names like Rolando Villazón, Thomas Hampson, and Anita Rachvelishvili. Beyond the mainstage, expect nearly 60 different opera and ballet productions, a dozen children's performances, and numerous concerts, galas and recitals across the season's 500 performances, plus a landmark Kodály centenary celebration and a special festive evening headlined by José Carreras on 20 December. With this level of star power on one of Europe's most beautiful stages, seats for the marquee premieres will not last — reserve yours now. XpatLoop + 2
