The 2026/27 season brings twelve new productions across opera and dance, with eleven operatic titles and seven ballets, under the musical direction of Michele Mariotti. The season opens on 27 November 2026 with Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, returning to Rome after nearly 60 years, and continues with Anna Netrebko's Italian debut in Bartók and Cecilia Bartoli marking forty years since her debut on this very stage. The programme also features Giordano's Andrea Chénierdirected by Marco Bellocchio, and Verdi's Il Trovatore, an opera that itself premiered in Rome in 1853. Staged in the gilded, horseshoe-shaped Teatro Costanzi — Rome's principal opera house since 1880 — this is a season built for connoisseurs, pairing world-class casts with a house whose acoustics and history rival any in Europe. Given the scale of the programming and the stars involved, prime dates for the season's marquee productions will move fast. Sky TG24 + 3
