The Hamburgische Staatsoper opens its 2026/27 season on September 12, 2026 with a new production of Verdi's Macbeth, directed by Intendant Tobias Kratzer and conducted by Tomáš Hanus, launching a season of 15 productions under the theme "Stellen Sie sich vor…" ("Imagine…"). Highlights include Humperdinck's rarely-staged Dornröschen in a new animation-meets-live-performance format, Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin conducted by Omer Meir Wellber, Rossini's Guillaume Tell with Lawrence Brownlee and Lisette Oropesa, and Henze's El Cimarrón. Due to renovation of the orchestra pit, the final weeks of the season (May 22 – July 4, 2027) move to the Kuppel Hamburg, a striking circus-tent venue offering an entirely different setting for opera.
