The 2027 season and 89th edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival presents twelve opera titles, including two performed in concert form, alongside seven new productions, a new ballet, and twenty major symphonic and choral-symphonic concerts, with Music Director Daniele Gatti leading three new opera productions and launching a two-year Bruckner cycle. The season opens with a Verdi double bill carried over from late 2026 — Simon Boccanegra, a new Maggio Fiorentino production conducted by James Conlon and directed by Alex Ollé of la Fura dels Baus, staged from 15 November, followed by Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, opening 20 December and running into the new year with a final performance on 2 January 2027. January then brings a revival of Verdi's La Traviata under Stefania Grazioli's 2024 staging, with conductor Alessandro Bonato returning to the podium and soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan making her Florence debut as Violetta. Gatti himself takes the podium in February for a new production of Il Trovatore directed by Leo Muscato, opening 23 February with Mariangela Sicilia debuting as Leonora alongside Gabriele Viviani, Valentina Pernòzzoli, and Antonio Poli. Set in one of Italy's most architecturally striking modern opera houses, this is a season built around the full sweep of European musical theatre — a rare chance to catch a major company mid-transition between two ambitious festival editions.
